Small Carpathians wine tour – urcite TO DAJ , MAS ALE LEN PAR FOTIEK
With some 7.3000 ha, the Small Carpathians wine region is the largest in Slovakia. Eighty percent of wines produced in the region are white since the weaker sun conditions are better for whites. Red wines are good, too, with Modra Frankovka being supposedly the favourite wine of the Austro-Hungarian queen Maria Theresa. It is said that she liked it for its fertility-enhancing properties. Careful: she gave birth to 16 children!
Our tour will take you to small towns Pezinok, Modra and Svätý Jur – famous for their wine production. As the towns are located just outside of Bratislava, you will not spend much time traveling, but instead, you will spend more time enjoying the wine and countryside.
Our first stop will be in Pezinok where we will taste wines from the National Collection of Slovak wines. The visited tavern is located in a newly renovated chateau and exhibits 100 wines that received the highest ranking in a national wine competition.
From Pezinok we will move to Elesko, a modern wine producer located in Modra, to continue the wine tasting. Elesko has a very nice restaurant with traditional cuisine. Let us know in advance if you would like us to make a reservation for lunch. In Modra we will also stop by the Zoya gallery.
On our way back to Bratislava we will stop in a lovely village Svätý Jur to try the last set of wines and walk around the town located just under the Little Carpathians mountains.
